How is it week three already?!
There has been a lot of progress in the kitchen. We picked up the painted cabinet doors from Paint it Like New and they could not look more perfect. The white (and pale blue on the island) add so much light to the kitchen. Paired with the Jasper pulls from Emtek they are just so beautiful. You aren’t even going to believe it! I’ve been sharing peeks on Instagram if you’d like to see, just click ORC in my highlights.
This week, I can finally share the plan for the living room, which opens onto the kitchen. Here is what it looked like before (you'll see why you have never seen photos of it before today!):

And here’s the plan:

This room will be getting a fresh coat of white paint today. Once that dries, we will be lining the wall under the TV with four of these new grey IKEA HAVSTA cabinets. They are the perfect depth to store everything from board games to wine. Once in place, we’ll add Metrie trim and a top to make them look built-in. Then I’ll paint them the same blue as the kitchen island.

Above those, and surrounding our massive TV, will be a gallery wall of the most beautiful art from Minted. Our original plan was to add shelves above the cabinets to give the look of floor-to-ceiling built-ins but I'm so happy we decided on this instead.

The current sofa will be swapped for this stunner, the FARLÖV from IKEA. I love the lines of it (and the slipcover, which can be washed).

I scoured the internet for a pair of chairs and ended up ordering two cane-backed ones from Target. They’ll be set in front of the cabinets, so I needed an option that would look beautiful, but also be lightweight enough to move when needed.

I picked up a fabric-covered square ottoman from Homesense for the coffee table. I plan on painting the legs white and hopefully slipcovering it in another fabric (that may not happen in time for the ORC reveal though).
One problem with this room is the very long wall that stretches from the dining room to the living room. To give it a little architectural interest (and some height) we are building a DIY fireplace mantel with help from Home Depot Canada. I’ve have always wanted a mantel to style and may already be planning seasonal looks. We'll have a post with all the how-to details including drawings coming soon.
I know I keep saying this but, this One Room Challenge would not be possible without the generosity of sponsors. Thank you to each and every one for helping me transform our home into such a beautiful space!
